David Wales is currently researching for a book that describes the "Always Human" concept that he has developed. Additionally, he is conducting research on communication with citizens during crises and the role of volunteers in the ENGAGE project. Previously, he has also examined the alignment of policy assumptions with evidence in relation to the use of fire extinguishers, used a patient experience lens to understand the journey of a dwelling fire burn survivor, and explored human behavior and motivation when encountering dwelling fires.
Professional experience
David Wales is the founder of SharedAim Ltd since March 2019. He currently serves as an Advisory Panel member for The Crisis Response Journal, an Advisory Board member for the Avoidable Deaths Network, and was an Evidence champion for the Alliance for Useful Evidence from 2017 to 2019.
He also served as the International Research Lead for the National Fire Chiefs Council from 2018 to 2021. Prior to that, he held various roles in the Kent Fire and Rescue Service from 1986 to 2019.
In addition, he was a Company Supervisor for the Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Kent Fire and Rescue Service and the University of Greenwich from 2013 to 2016.
