Prof. Helen Boon
Research work

Helen Boon has recently completed research on culturally relevant pedagogy for Indigenous students, an Australian Research Council funded project and a project on teachers’ ethical sensitivity funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. 

Prior to that Helen led an NCCARF Climate Change Adaptation Research Grants Program project on community resilience to disasters.

 

Professional experience

 

Helen  teaches educational psychology to undergraduates and post graduates at the College of Arts, Education and Society, James Cook University, Townsville, Australia. 

After initial training in the UK, Dr. Boon taught chemistry and mathematics for a number of years. Dr. Boon has actively engaged in research relevant to science education, climate change education, teacher training, ethics, and educational psychology, with a particular focus upon resiliency, students at risk of academic failure, achievement goal motivation and parenting.
