Prof. José Szapocznik conducted the first-ever randomized clinical trial of family therapy with behavior-problem adolescents. He developed and tested the effectiveness of Brief Strategic Family Therapy in treating problem behaviors in adolescents. He is a pioneer in behavioral treatment and family-based intervention research with Hispanic populations. Additionally, he conducted groundbreaking work in uncovering the impact of the built environment, and greenness specifically, on 13 different chronic conditions among persons over 65 years of age.

 

Professional experience

 

Prof. José Szapocznik is the founder and former Director of the Center for Family Studies at the Miami Clinical & Translational Science Institute. He is also a Professor and Chair Emeritus in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami. Additionally, he served as the former Executive Dean for Research and Research Education at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
