Prof. Manana Gabashvili has a diverse academic profile in research across the borders of the three interrelated fields - linguistics, psychology and medicine which involves, inter alia, clinical linguistics & psychotraumatology with the focus on resilience studies. Manana concentrates on the "speechless" (aphasia and neurorehabilitation) and the "unspeakable" (traumatic stress/PTSD and coping). To the same extent, her interests include collective/societal trauma; societal and national resilience. Language of resilience is her recent academic curiosity in the context of the VUCAH world.
Professional experience
Manana has more than 35 years’ experience of research, lecturing and practical work in speech/language assessment and aphasia therapy; around 15 years’ experience of working for international organisations (OSCE and Norwegian Refugee Council-NRC) at different managerial positions, along with delivering lectures in psychotraumatology of conflict- and displacement-affected persons and communities.
Education
Manana holds a PhD in Linguistics from Moscow State Linguistic University (1980). She is certified in Neuropsychology at Lomonosov Moscow State University (1977-1979). She also is a Fulbright alumna in conflict-induced displacement studies (psychological perspective) at the Center for International Development and Conflict Management (CIDCM), University of Maryland at College Park (1997-1998).
