On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a coordinated attack on southern and central Israel, marked by widespread rocket fire and attempts to breach the Gaza border. This assault led to violent confrontations with the Israeli populace and military, resulting in over 1,400 Israeli deaths and approximately 5,600 wounded. The conflict has displaced around 200,000 people and deeply affected the nation's sense of security, while ongoing hostilities exacerbate social, political, and legal tensions within Israel. The impact of this unprecedented attack continues to unfold, leaving the country grappling with immense challenges.
The objectives of the proposed study are:
- To assess resilience at the national, societal, and community levels within Israel, particularly in regions heavily affected by the conflict
- To identify the factors that contribute to or undermine resilience, such as trust in institutions, community cohesion, and the psychological impact of displacement
- To explore methods to enhance resilience through improved crisis management, social support systems, and public trust-building measures
- To provide evidence-based recommendations to Israeli policymakers on strengthening national preparedness and response strategies
